Director, Therapeutic Shelter Homes

About the role

Wayfinder Family Services supports some of the state’s most vulnerable children, youth, and adults—those with disabilities, those without a home, survivors of abuse, and others. We provide leadership, oversight, and direction for therapeutic shelter homes, ensuring high-quality client care and staff support in compliance with federal, state, and local standards.

Under the guidance of the Vice President of Clinical and Housing Services, this role develops and leads a therapeutic shelter homes program, supporting DCFS-approved resource families and children in care.

Responsibilities

• Develop, oversee, and maintain the department’s budget.
• Provide collaborative management, leadership, and supervision within the Therapeutic Shelter Homes (TSH) in partnership with the Mental Health Services department to ensure high-quality services and adherence to County and State contract obligations.
• Assist in determining departmental staffing and make recommendations to the VP of Clinical and Housing Services regarding wage adjustments, hiring, terminations, and transfers.
• Draft and/or revise Program Statements, Performance Improvement Plans, Corrective Action Plans, and other documentation required for County contracts or funding (e.g., SOW, RFPs).
• Oversee and implement quality assurance systems to track service provision, documentation completion, budget adherence, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
• Complete administrative tasks, including forms and reports, and ensure timely submission to the VP of Clinical and Housing Services. Oversee daily documentation, incident reports, and shift logs.
• Perform other duties as outlined in the position description.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social sciences, child development, social work, psychology, or a related field with appropriate experience.
• Current licensure in a mental health discipline, recognized by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or CA Board of Psychology.
• At least four years of demonstrated leadership responsibility.
• Three or more years of experience in child welfare or the foster care system.
• Extensive knowledge of California Code of Regulations Title 22.
• Valid CA Driver License with a minimum of two years of good driving history, approved by the agency’s insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles. Alternatively, willingness and ability to make frequent field visits using a personal vehicle (must be approved by the agency’s automobile insurance carrier).

Pay

The salary range for this position is $110,000 – $120,000.
