About the role
The Director, Technical Accounting & Business Process Transformation is a senior leadership role within a lean, high-growth finance organization. This position is responsible for setting technical accounting strategy, leading complex and high-impact accounting matters, and driving enterprise-wide process transformation to strengthen controls, enhance scalability, and support the company’s continued growth.
Requirements
Technical Accounting Leadership: Serve as the company’s technical accounting authority, establishing direction and oversight for complex and non-routine transactions. Define and maintain scalable, fit-for-purpose accounting policies in alignment with U.S. GAAP. Provide strategic technical guidance to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Build, mentor, and develop technical accounting capabilities within the organization. Monitor emerging accounting standards and drive proactive, pragmatic adoption strategies.
Process Transformation & Control Environment: Set the vision and roadmap for business process transformation across the organization. Partner with executive leadership to prioritize and execute high-impact transformation initiatives. Oversee end-to-end reviews of critical processes (e.g., order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, inventory, payroll, systems integration, and new business models). Establish scalable, risk-based control frameworks that balance compliance with operational efficiency. Drive identification and remediation of control gaps, inefficiencies, and scalability challenges, ensuring clear ownership and accountability. Monitor progress and outcomes of transformation initiatives, ensuring sustainable implementation.
Risk & Advisory: As a trusted advisor to executive leadership on accounting, operational, and strategic decisions. Provide forward-looking insights on risks associated with growth, system implementations, and evolving business models. Integrate risk and control considerations into enterprise decision-making while maintaining business agility.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional alignment across Operations, IT, Legal, HR, and other functions to embed strong processes and controls. Translate complex accounting and control concepts into actionable business insights. Influence at all levels of the organization, driving accountability without direct authority. Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
External Audit & Technical Reporting: Serve as the executive liaison with external auditors on all technical accounting matters. Oversee the preparation and quality of technical accounting memos, analyses, and documentation. Ensure a proactive, efficient, and well-coordinated audit process.
Continuous Improvement & Scalability: Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational discipline. Lead enterprise initiatives that enhance scalability, efficiency, and control maturity. Continuously evolve processes, controls, and policies in alignment with business growth and complexity. Build and scale the function over time, including team structure, capabilities, and tools.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree preferred.
CPA required. Combination of public accounting and industry experience strongly preferred.
Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP with the ability to apply guidance pragmatically in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide process transformation, control design, and operational improvement initiatives.
Experience operating at a strategic level in lean and high-growth environments.
Proven ability to evaluate end-to-end processes, assess risk, and implement scalable solutions.
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Track record of building and developing teams and driving organizational change.
Highly self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable owning outcomes in an evolving environment.
Experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, and advanced analytics tools to enhance business processes, improve operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and support data-driven decision-making is preferred.
