Director, Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the end-to-end global financial reporting function, ensuring the integrity of consolidated and entity-only US GAAP financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategy for regulated entity reporting, ensuring 100% compliance with evolving regulations.
  • Subject matter expert, evaluation of complex, non-routine transactions, providing technical accounting guidance and disclosure recommendations.
  • Iteration and development of GAAP accounting policies, supporting high-impact business initiatives such as post-merger integration and product launches.
  • Establishment and maintenance of a robust library of corporate accounting policies, leading the implementation of new FASB/SEC standards.
  • Design and maturation of an internal control environment for integration with Capital One’s financial reporting standards and SOX requirements.
  • Partnership with Product, Engineering, Legal and other teams for proactive accounting on new product launches and business model changes.
  • Ensuring timely close through preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analytics, coordinating with FP&A.
  • Identification and delivery of process improvements via automation, AI initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • CPA License.
  • 10+ years of experience, including significant time at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or leadership role in high-growth companies.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge in US GAAP.
  • Deep understanding of financial services, credit card processing, or payment-related accounting.
  • Ability to translate complex accounting jargon into actionable insights for non-finance counterparts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and address difficult situations professionally.
  • Innovative and able to provide “outside of the box” solutions.
  • Passion for having an owner’s mentality towards responsibilities and for career growth.
  • Experience implementing and improving business processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and experience using DFIN, Workiva or similar financial reporting platforms.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $252,216- $315,270. However, the starting base pay will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
