Director, Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting

Responsibilities

• Oversight of the end-to-end global financial reporting function, ensuring the integrity of consolidated and entity-only US GAAP financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
• Strategy for regulated entity reporting, ensuring 100% compliance with evolving regulations
• Subject matter expert, evaluation of complex, non-routine transactions and provision of technical accounting guidance and disclosure recommendations
• Iteration and development of GAAP accounting policies and support for high-impact business initiatives such as post-merger integration and product launches
• Establishment and maintenance of a robust library of corporate accounting policies; lead the implementation of new FASB/SEC standards
• Design and maturation of an internal control environment in preparation for integration with Capital One’s financial reporting standards and SOX requirements
• Partnership with Product, Engineering, Legal and other teams to provide proactive accounting for new product launches and business model changes
• Ensuring timely close through the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations and variance analytics, as well as coordination with FP&A
• Identification and delivery of process improvements via automation, AI initiatives and cross-functional collaboration

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting
• CPA License
• 10+ years of experience, including significant time at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or leadership role in high-growth companies
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge in US GAAP
• Deep understanding of financial services, credit card processing or payment-related accounting
• Ability to translate complex accounting jargon into actionable insights for non-finance counterparts
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and address difficult situations in a professional manner
• Innovative and able to provide “outside of the box” solutions

• Experience implementing and improving business processes and systems
• Knowledge and experience using DFIN, Workiva or similar financial reporting platforms
