Tax Director

About the role

As a Tax Director at Goodwin, you will lead the firm's tax function across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and strategic tax planning. You will oversee and optimize tax processes related to international, partnership federal and state, and partner tax matters including partner tax allocations. You will also collaborate with IT, finance, and partner compensation teams to implement technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the firm’s tax function across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and strategic tax planning.
  • Oversee and optimize tax processes related to international, partnership federal and state, and partner tax matters including partner tax allocations.
  • Collaborate with IT, finance, and partner compensation teams to implement technology solutions.
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax operations.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to firm leadership on tax implications of business decisions, including cross-border transactions and entity structuring.
  • Mentor and develop tax team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for our Partners regarding tax matters.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally within a professional services environment.
  • Advanced degree (MST/MSA) or CPA strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in international, state, partnership, and individual tax.
  • Demonstrated success in leading tax transformation initiatives, including automation and technology integration.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Comfortable addressing complex and sensitive tax inquiries with discretion and clarity.
  • Deep tax expertise applied effectively to solve problems and deliver results.
  • Thinks critically, stays current with tax legislation and industry trends, and consistently demonstrates a commitment to quality.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to build relationships and deliver high-quality service to partners, senior leadership, and colleagues.
  • Acts with integrity and sound judgment. Makes thoughtful decisions based on data, values, and input from others.

Pay

The target salary range for this position varies by location and is commensurate with relevant experience: $225,000.00 - $325,000.00.
