Member of the Avangrid Tax leadership team, responsible for assisting in the development of overall Corporate Tax Strategies, Risk Management, and Talent Development.
Responsibilities
- Lead federal and state tax planning initiatives, including support for Corporate Development and business-initiated transactions and tax strategy development and implementation.
- Direct and lead the tax staff assigned to tax planning activities.
- Lead representative transactions:
- Merger and acquisition transactions or business dispositions.
- New Renewables investments — both wind and solar.
- New Networks projects — major bids and infrastructure projects.
- Review of partnership agreements, amendments, and wind-down.
- Lead and coordinate tax audits with support of individuals in income or non-income tax operations.
- Maintain and enhance tax models for scenario/development planning to optimize attribute realization/valuation outcomes.
- Lead assessment of accounting for uncertain tax positions and impact on GAAP and IFRS accounting for taxes.
- Coordinate the monitoring and communication of tax legislative and regulatory developments and liaise with Federal and State Affairs, trade association committees, and internal customers to optimize final outcomes and resultant business impacts.
- Lead annual transfer pricing engagement for US operations of Iberdrola SA.
- Coordinate with tax reporting teams to ensure transactions are reported accurately and in accordance with deal expectations for tax provision and returns.
- Responsible for the growth and development of tax staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience required. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills
- Exceptional communication skills, communicates complex tax matters clearly and persuasively to executives, auditors, and global teams.
- Applies strong analytical judgment to evaluate tax positions and financial impacts.
- Leads multi-phase tax projects, driving timely, high-quality deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
- Provides authoritative guidance on SEC tax disclosures and ensures accurate, compliant filings.
- Working knowledge of tax provisions and rules to translate results from work product into required accounting adjustments.
- Ability to successfully execute SOX controls associated with relevant work outputs.
- Understands IFRS Tax Accounting requirements to support coordination with accounting teams.
- Aligns tax strategy with business objectives, identifying risks and value-creation opportunities.
- Produces clear, defensible tax memoranda, position papers, and executive summaries.
- Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and tax-related systems; leverages technology to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s in taxation, Law Degree, and/or CPA.
- Experience in the energy industry or highly regulated business.
Pay
Base salary range for this position in Orange, CT: $171,000 - $195,000 (dependent upon experience and location).
