About the role

The Director of Talent Assessment Science leads the development and validation of assessments, from cognitive to situational formats, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. They partner with clients to build structured interview systems and draw insights from large datasets to inform hiring practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the construction and validation of assessments across cognitive, behavioral, situational, and work-sample formats, including item writing, scale development, IRT calibration, and validation studies.
  • Partner directly with clients to scope needs, shape solutions, present psychometric findings, and defend the science with legal teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop structured interview systems that balance scientific rigor with commercial timelines, creating behaviorally anchored guides for clients to use effectively.
  • Draw discoveries from the 17 million pre-hire assessment dataset, identifying novel validity evidence, performance predictors, subgroup patterns, and insights that benefit clients and advance the field.
  • Advance methodologies in CAT, IRT, AI-assisted item generation, automated scoring, and candidate evaluation models, connecting these advancements to Gallup's talent philosophy and CliftonStrengths.
  • Guide the assessment science on major client engagements, collaborating with strategy, analytics, technology, and client-service colleagues.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in I-O psychology or a closely related field
  • At least 10 years of experience building assessments for clients, with at least five years in an applied, non-academic setting
  • Experience writing items at scale, conducting confirmatory factor analysis, and performing job analyses
  • Deep knowledge of EEOC regulations, the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, and SIOP principles
  • Statistical analysis experience using R, Python, or similar tools
  • A commitment to working on-site at Gallup’s Omaha office at least three days per week
  • Eligibility to work in the United States; this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship
