About the Role

Jewish Family Service LA (JFSLA) is seeking an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and results-driven Director of the Subscription Meal Program to launch and grow a mission-driven, for-profit meal subscription business. This venture will leverage the expertise, proven success, and infrastructure of JFSLA’s existing senior meal production program and commercial kitchen to provide high-quality, nutritious meals to the community while generating sustainable profits to support JFSLA’s nonprofit senior meals services.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with JFSLA’s CFO, the Director will lead all aspects of the business, including strategy, operations, business development, marketing, financial performance, customer experience, partnerships, team development, and long-term growth.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with key leadership and a set of consultants (currently engaged) to develop and execute the business plan and growth strategy for the Subscription Meal Program (SMP).
  • Develop the SMP budget in partnership with the JFSLA finance team, manage the program budget, and monitor revenue, expenses, and profitability.
  • Interface closely with JFSLA’s kosher production kitchen around meal production and related operations.
  • Oversee daily SMP operations including ordering, fulfillment, and delivery.
  • Partner with a marketing consultant to drive customer acquisition and retention.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop program staff.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare regular operational and financial performance reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, Food Science, Supply Chain Management, Hospitality Management, Entrepreneurship, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience, including responsibility for business operations, strategic planning, and financial performance.
  • Demonstrated success launching, growing, or significantly expanding a revenue-generating business, product line, or service.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies for business growth that boost revenue, profits, and market presence.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, developing business plans, forecasting, pricing strategies, and analyzing financial performance.
  • Experience leading operations in food service, commercial meal production, meal delivery, hospitality, subscription-based businesses, consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail food operations, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience in marketing, customer acquisition, brand development, digital marketing, and customer retention strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities, build strategic partnerships, and develop new business relationships.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and change management skills, with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to develop innovative solutions, adapt quickly, and achieve results in a start-up environment.
