Director, State Affairs - IL

For our client, we are seeking a Director, State Affairs - IL to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space. This role will lead state advocacy and legislative affairs across Illinois and additional states, shaping external policy strategy in support of business growth. The position partners closely with internal leaders, policymakers, regulators, and outside stakeholders to advance organizational priorities and provide clear policy guidance to senior leadership. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in healthcare advocacy and government affairs, with the ability to navigate legislative processes and influence public policy outcomes in a complex environment. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $168,000 – $231,000 annually Responsibilities Lead state advocacy and legislative affairs across Illinois and additional states Advance business priorities through strategic advocacy and stakeholder engagement Collaborate with internal leaders to align advocacy efforts with growth objectives Build and maintain relationships with key legislators and regulators Monitor emerging policy developments and recommend response strategies Manage external consultants and trade associations in support of strategic objectives Deliver policy insights and recommendations to senior leadership Qualifications 5-7 years of experience in government affairs and healthcare advocacy Strong understanding of state legislative processes and their impact on healthcare Proven track record influencing public policy outcomes Exceptional communication skills for diverse audiences Ability to travel regularly within Illinois and neighboring states Experience building relationships with government officials and policymakers Knowledge of Medicaid programs and related healthcare policy Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) retirement savings plan Paid time off including parental and caregiver leave Short- and long-term disability insurance Life insurance Support for personal wellness and healthcare decisions Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
