Director Sourcing
About the Role
Emerson is seeking a Director of Sourcing to lead the sourcing function for its Professional Tools business. In this strategic leadership role, you will drive sourcing excellence, supplier performance, cost optimization, and supply chain innovation across direct and indirect spend categories. Reporting to the Vice President of Sourcing and Procurement, you will develop and execute sourcing strategies that create business value, strengthen supplier partnerships, support new product development, and enable operational success.
Emerson’s global Professional Tools business offers a broad portfolio of trusted tools and technologies serving professionals in the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades through leading brands such as RIDGID®, Greenlee®, and Klauke®.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies across direct and indirect categories that drive business value, operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and cost optimization.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sourcing team while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
- Build and strengthen strategic supplier relationships through performance management, contract negotiation, spend analysis, and ongoing business reviews.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders, including operations, engineering, legal, finance, marketing, and product development, to align sourcing initiatives with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes through digital solutions, automation, Lean methodologies, market intelligence, and supply chain best practices.
- Oversee sourcing project prioritization, governance, performance metrics, and reporting to ensure successful execution and achievement of key objectives.
- Support new product development initiatives by engaging preferred suppliers early in the process to ensure quality, innovation, supply continuity, and commercial success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Engineering or Business Administration.
- 8+ years of supply chain experience.
- People leadership or management experience.
- Experience negotiating and drafting contracts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
- Strong business analysis capabilities with the ability to develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with stakeholder objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of major commodity categories and sourcing best practices.
- Demonstrated success negotiating supplier agreements and delivering value through strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret, manipulate, and leverage data to support strategy development and negotiations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to drive results through cross-functional teams in a global environment.
- Ability to develop strategic plans and successfully execute them through completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
