About the role
The Director of Site Merchandising is responsible for managing a team to optimize the customer’s discovery and selection of products across our Digital properties, drive sales and profitability through online events, and execute, analyze, and audit content. The Director will work closely with peers and cross-functional teams to streamline processes, simplify, and automate. They will develop an agile team focused on results and adaptability, create a vision, goals, and success metrics, prioritize work efforts, and implement key performance indicators (KPIs). The role requires a deep understanding of business objectives, defining site strategies, and translating them into actionable steps for the team. The Director must be highly analytical, organized, and possess strong communication and presentation skills to represent their Family of Business (FOB) in various forums.
Responsibilities
- Deeply understand customer shopping behavior and preferences.
- Be the expert in your Family of Business (FOB) and categories; maximize online events to increase sales, conversion, and profit performance.
- Understand event business strategy, vision, objectives, and priorities; define requirements for success and establish best-in-class execution based on KPIs and ROI.
- Ensure implementation of the best site experience and seamless execution for promotions, sitewide events, and FOB events.
- Build strategic cross-functional relationships (Site Merchandising, Marketing, Creative Production, Production, and Merchant Partners) to leverage resources for best-in-class event execution.
- Conduct site analysis and audits: align data across all customer touchpoints and devices, establish best practices across the competitive landscape, and optimize facets and browse functionality.
- Manage Header Flyout and Left-Hand Navigation; collaborate with SEO and UX teams to develop best practices.
- Optimize On-Site Search, establish best practices, and execute merchandising approvals as needed.
- Lead the team to optimize the shopping experience across all devices and experiences.
- Develop an Agile team capable of reacting with solutions for success.
- Foster career development: train, motivate, and develop team members for continued growth.
- Develop presentations and present at team meetings.
- Drive automation to improve event and taxonomy processes.
- Collaborate with enhancement and experimentation teams to drive sales and conversion increases.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect, strengthening relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university, or equivalent experience.
- 8-10 years of online merchandising or retail experience preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience coaching, developing, and motivating teams at various levels.
- Passion for and knowledge of the retail industry, including familiarity with fashion magazines and industry publications like WWD.
- Experience in apparel, footwear, accessories, or home retailing is a plus.
- Strong analytical and database skills, coupled with visual presentation capabilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in project and process management, with the ability to manage workload, priorities, and timelines effectively.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to think analytically and pragmatically.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a true team player.
- Willingness to innovate and continuously seek new data sources to enhance insights.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with senior and mid-level management across various teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior to mid-level analysts.
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel; occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms; requires close vision.
