About the role
Molex is building the future of intelligent sensing. We are seeking a Director, Sensor Engineering to lead the development of next-generation sensing technologies and build the engineering capabilities that will support future growth across a diverse range of applications and markets.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technology strategy and roadmap for Molex's sensing portfolio, driving innovation across hardware, firmware, sensor fusion, signal processing, calibration, test, and manufacturability.
- Lead, develop, and scale a multidisciplinary engineering organization spanning engineering managers, hardware engineers, firmware and software engineers, systems engineers, and test and validation teams.
- Build the engineering capabilities, technical depth, and organizational structure needed to support a growing sensing business, creating an environment where talent can thrive, innovate, and deliver meaningful business impact.
- Guide architecture and design decisions for advanced sensing systems, including transducers (MEMS, optical, acoustic, electromagnetic, and related technologies), analog front-end, ADCs, FPGA/ASIC integration, embedded software, and calibration.
- Partner closely with product management, systems engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and regulatory teams to define requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver innovative sensing solutions.
- Establish scalable engineering processes, development metrics, and best practices that improve execution, reliability, test coverage, product quality, and continuous improvement.
- Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent through coaching, mentorship, succession planning, and thoughtful resource allocation.
- Lead strategic relationships with suppliers, development partners, and external vendors supporting component technologies, fabrication, testing, and engineering services.
- Ensure products meet applicable industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a focus on quality, reliability, and customer success.
- Oversee program execution across cost, schedule, technical risk, and resource planning, while effectively communicating priorities, progress, and risks to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, technical rigor, systems thinking, and data-driven decision-making that enables the team to solve complex sensing challenges and create differentiated solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of engineering experience developing sensor hardware, systems, or related sensing technologies.
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, technical leaders, or engineering managers.
- Experience leading complex product development efforts through design, validation, manufacturing, and launch.
- Deep technical expertise in one or more sensing technologies, including - but not limited to - current, acceleration, magnetic or environmental sensing.
- Experience working cross-functionally to deliver complex technical products and systems.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Experience building and scaling global engineering organizations in emerging technology or growth-oriented environments.
- Experience developing system-level sensing solutions across hardware, embedded systems, software, analytics, or connected platforms.
- Experience with analog or mixed-signal electronics, signal processing, embedded systems, sensor fusion, or calibration algorithms.
- Experience bringing sensing technologies into production or high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting products across automotive, industrial, aerospace, infrastructure, medical, communications, semiconductor, or other technology-focused markets.
- Experience influencing technology strategy, investment decisions, and executive-level business planning.
- Familiarity with industry standards, reliability requirements, quality systems, or regulated product environments.
