About the role

We are hiring at either the Director or Senior Director level, to be determined based on candidate experience and qualifications. This hybrid-based role is ideally based in Chicago, but other locations will be considered. We seek Valuation professionals with bank valuation experience for financial reporting purposes, specifically in valuing:

  • Loan portfolios
  • Customer relationship intangibles
  • Core deposit intangibles
  • Financial instruments

Responsibilities

Our professionals utilize a variety of valuation standards, approaches, and methodologies, including:

  • Standards of value: fair market value, fair value, intrinsic value, and investment value
  • Managing and developing staff
  • Oversight of ongoing projects and client relationships
  • Premises of value: going concern, fair market, and liquidation
  • Valuation approaches and methodologies:
    • Market approach: guideline company method, merger and acquisition (transaction) method, market pricing for services, compensation
    • Sales comparison approach: utilizes recent transactions, selection of appropriate units of comparison
    • Income approach: discounted cash flow method, capitalization of earnings method, etc.
    • Asset approach: discrete/collective revaluation of assets and liabilities
    • Cost approach: estimation of costs to replicate a service or asset
  • Financial statement analysis: ratio, common-sized, and trend analyses
  • Discount/capitalization rates: buildup method, capital asset pricing model, weighted average cost of capital, and other quantitative approaches
  • Minority interest discounts/control premiums
  • Discounts for lack of marketability: restricted stock studies, pre-IPO studies, and other quantitative methods
  • Intangible asset valuations, entity valuation issues regarding C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing bank valuations for financial reporting purposes, including valuing loan portfolios, core deposit intangibles, and customer relationship intangibles
  • Undergraduate degree required; emphasis in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred
  • Valuation experience in other financial services segments (e.g., insurance brokerage, specialty finance, mortgage banking) is a plus
  • Progress toward ASA, CVA, CPA, and/or CFA designation is a plus
  • Willingness to travel as needed (less than 25%)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range is $85,000 to $200,000. This range is specific to applicable markets and considers factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and business needs. The range does not include additional benefits outside of salary. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each role.
