About the role
The Director, Deal Structuring & Valuation will lead the financial assessment, complex modeling, and strategic structuring of significant deals across recorded music and music publishing. This role involves developing sophisticated financial models, identifying optimal deal structures, and presenting compelling financial analyses to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and refinement of sophisticated financial models and valuation analyses for high-stakes deals (e.g., partnerships, artist/publishing catalog acquisitions, and frontline deals).
- Drive the strategic structuring of deal economics and terms, collaborating with senior business, legal, and creative collaborators to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and growth plans.
- Proactively identify and assess diverse deal structures to optimize financial returns and lead risk effectively.
- Develop and implement global frameworks and best practices for deal valuation methodologies, financial forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Manage adherence to deal budgets, forecast expenditures, and ensure adherence to cash targets and corporate return thresholds.
- Prepare and present compelling financial analyses and deal recommendations to senior leadership.
- Mentor and guide junior analysts/managers on financial modeling techniques, valuation best practices, and industry-specific deal nuances.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and evolving monetization models to inform innovative deal structures and pricing strategies.
Requirements
- 7-10+ years of progressive experience in finance, corporate development, investment banking, or a similar deal-focused role, with significant experience in the music, entertainment, or media sectors.
- Extensive expertise in advanced financial modeling, valuation techniques (DCF, precedent transactions, comparable company analysis), and deal structuring.
- Proven track record of successfully leading financial analysis for complex commercial agreements.
- Deep understanding of music rights, revenue streams, and the unique economic drivers of the music industry.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
- MBA, CFA, or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in the music industry, particularly in finance, corporate development, or investment banking.
- Knowledge of music rights, revenue streams, and the unique economic drivers of the music industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
