Director/Senior Director, Client Finance
About the role
The Director, Client Finance, will lead the agency's forecasting and business planning function, delivering accurate revenue projections, financial insights, and strategic recommendations that drive operational and commercial decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Analyze historical performance trends and market dynamics to improve forecast accuracy.
- Partner with finance leadership on annual budgeting and long-range planning initiatives.
- Lead monthly revenue forecasting processes across the client portfolio.
- Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards.
- Ensure project forecasts accurately reflect scope, timing, staffing, and financial expectations.
- Analyze forecast-to-actual variances and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as the primary finance partner for assigned client accounts.
- Monitor client revenue, gross margin, profitability, utilization, and project performance.
- Review project financials regularly with Client Service and Project Management teams.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions to improve project profitability.
- Support contract and Statement of Work (SOW) financial reviews.
- Collaborate with account, operations, and business development teams to assess client revenue trends, pipeline conversion, and utilization metrics.
- Provide financial oversight of client portfolios, including revenue tracking, profitability analysis, budgeting support, and forecasting accuracy.
- Partner with client finance and account leadership to monitor contract performance, scope changes, revenue recognition, and margin management.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities across client accounts and recommend corrective actions to leadership.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on forecast analysis and business performance.
- Support leadership with data-driven insights for staffing, investment, and operational decisions.
- Design and maintain dashboards and reporting tools for revenue forecasting and KPI tracking.
- Monitor forecast variances and identify key drivers impacting business performance.
- Deliver actionable reporting on margin performance and revenue pacing.
- Improve data quality, reporting consistency, and forecasting methodologies.
- Establish best practices and scalable forecasting processes across the organization.
- Drive automation and systems improvements related to forecasting and business analytics.
- Partner with account and operations teams to enhance reporting infrastructure and data integration.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Manage and mentor finance team members.
- Foster a data-driven culture focused on accountability and informed decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in forecasting, FP&A, strategic finance, or business analytics.
- 3+ years of leadership or people management experience.
- Agency, marketing services, media, healthcare communications, or professional services industry experience preferred.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Experience with forecasting tools, ERP systems, and BI platforms.
- Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
- Prioritize proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Points
- MBA, CPA, CFA, or related advanced certification.
- Experience with agency resource management and utilization forecasting.
- Familiarity with systems such as Workday, NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, Smartsheet, Rippling.
- Experience supporting executive-level strategic planning initiatives.
