Director, Security Engineering
About the role
The Director of Security Engineering will operate as a partner to the Chief Information Security Officer and senior executives across Snap on Security Engineering Initiatives and will lead the Security Foundations Engineering team focused on Platform Security, Application Security, and Identity and Access Management. The team is responsible for delivering trustworthy infrastructure that empowers Snap to securely conduct business and partners with infrastructure owners and customers across the company to establish trusted runtime environments for all Snap software, applications, and data.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Security Engineering teams across multiple offices, setting the vision and strategy for security engineering, aligning with Snapchat’s mission and values.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers and security specialists, fostering collaboration, innovation, and growth.
- Establish KPIs to measure the effectiveness of safety and security initiatives and regularly report to executive leadership on platform risks, progress, and areas for improvement.
- Oversee the security architecture and practices for Snapchat’s products, ensuring secure-by-design principles are applied throughout the development lifecycle.
- Lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate security vulnerabilities in Snapchat’s app and services, anticipating future safety and security challenges and developing strategies to address them.
- Partner with legal, policy, product, and engineering teams to align on safety and security priorities and work closely with product teams to integrate security into new features and updates.
- Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on matters related to product security, influencing key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering & security solutions.
- Utilize AI tools and high velocity engineering workflows to design and ship scalable services while upholding rigorous standards for code correctness, security, and production ready quality code.
- Iterate quickly without compromising quality and raise the bar on operational excellence.
Requirements
- BS/BA in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of security engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience managing a team
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading a large team at scale and managing engineering & security orgs with an eye to driving efficiency
- Previous experience partnering with cross-functional executives and management across a globally distributed organization
- Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
- Proficiency in, or a strong aptitude for, leveraging AI tools to streamline development, paired with the critical judgment to audit generated output for architectural integrity, performance bottlenecks, and security risks.
- Experience with mobile apps development

Pay
Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): The base salary range for this position is $334,000-$500,000 annually. Zone B: The base salary range for this position is $317,000-$475,000 annually. Zone C: The base salary range for this position is $284,000-$425,000 annually. This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
