About the Role

Tandem Diabetes Care creates new possibilities for people living with diabetes, their loved ones, and their healthcare providers through a positively different experience. As the Director, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), you will be an integral part of the financial operations’ infrastructure, creating and implementing policies and best practices for the billing and reimbursement function. This role ensures that billing and collection activities are timely and accurate while strategically setting goals and driving process improvements across the revenue cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of revenue cycle functions, including A/R review, billing, collections, payment posting, and patient financial services.
  • Set strategic goals and objectives for the reimbursement team, including headcount, budgeting, process, and system requirements.
  • Influence all revenue cycle processes by developing, revising, and enforcing policies, goals, and best practices to effectively manage company receivables.
  • Develop, redesign, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as customer mix, A/R, collection rates, adjustments, bad debt write-off, estimated collections, appeal success rates, and other parameters.
  • Collaborate closely with the revenue accounting and financial reporting teams to ensure proper revenue recognition.
  • Engage in cross-functional and interdepartmental process improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Partner with the Customer Support team to minimize potential losses.
  • Create and implement a patient financial service strategy.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert (SME) on regulatory, compliance, and legal requirements associated with medical billing, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations, standards, and directives from regulatory agencies, governmental, and third-party payers.
  • Evaluate billing systems, lead new system selection, and drive implementation efforts, including automating routine reimbursement tasks through technology.
  • Deliver comprehensive reporting to senior management, communicating relevant trends, KPIs, and analytical insights into performance.
  • Collaborate extensively with finance, compliance/legal, sales operations, managed care, and leadership to ensure execution of a fully integrated revenue cycle and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure departments operate in compliance with payer requirements, patient expectations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain departmental adherence to company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA and other legal/regulatory directives.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Certification in Medical Billing preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in finance and/or operations.
  • 5+ years in an RCM leadership role within a healthcare system.
  • DME and pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience in a high-volume medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical environment preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing processes to ensure timely and effective billing and collection of medical reimbursement and patient receivables.
  • Experience defining appropriate structure, personnel, processes, and measurements to meet billing and collection needs, with the ability to adapt as company needs evolve.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, particularly revenue recognition rules, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare billing, coding, and reimbursement principles, as well as industry regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and State regulations regarding medical reimbursement, documentation, and coding.
  • Skilled at effectively communicating departmental issues and results across functional areas and conducting presentations of technical information.

Schedule

Hybrid: This role requires a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA, and remote work. The position is expected to be in-office 2-3 days per week, though this may vary depending on business demands.

Pay

The starting base pay range for this position is $161,000 - $205,000 annually. Base pay varies based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and may fluctuate depending on candidate location and overall job market.
