About the Role

The Director of Revenue Cycle Services, Regional Business Partner (RBP), collaborates with PSJH leadership and the Revenue Cycle Regional Executive Partner to transform revenue cycle into a world-class operation for one of the largest and most innovative health companies in the United States. This role drives change in a large, highly matrixed organization, leveraging data, analytics, and best-in-class technology to deliver revenue uplift. The leader is accountable for achieving revenue cycle performance goals and financial targets, driving enhanced revenue yield for an assigned region.

The RBP builds effective internal partnerships and promotes collaborative relationships with regional leadership and enterprise shared services, including finance, reimbursement, payer contracting, information technology, legal, and compliance. This leader continually evaluates end-to-end revenue cycle processes to maintain best practice standards and realize service and quality commitments, ensuring key stakeholders are kept fully informed on performance and influencing factors.

The RBP serves as the revenue cycle representative on local regional leadership committees and the key point of contact for communication between acute ministries and revenue cycle. This role partners with Chief Financial Officers and other regional leaders at the hospital level or other lines of business (e.g., physician billing, post-acute, ambulatory care) to develop revenue cycle strategies closely supporting ministry or market aims. The RBP is accountable for achieving performance metrics and sharing timely, critical revenue cycle management information, trends, and opportunities between assigned ministries and revenue cycle leadership.

This position also provides revenue cycle support for Community Connect, Affiliates, managed acute facilities, and physician and ambulatory enterprises. The RBP maintains open relationships between revenue cycle and reimbursement teams, payer contracting, financial planning and analysis, and operational and administrative leadership of assigned ministries, ensuring issues raised are addressed and resolutions communicated. Additionally, this role provides local leadership and serves as a resource in standardizing revenue cycle policies and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performance Reporting and Revenue Management
    • Accountable for performance reporting and metrics, with an emphasis on revenue leakage.
    • Drives denials management and process improvements with regions.
    • Leads denials management committees.
  • Regional Partnership and Revenue Cycle Leadership
    • Serves as a trusted adviser and field leader, ensuring issues are identified and resolved, including crisis management and leading special projects, growth, and expansion activities.
    • Acts as the connection point between regions, revenue cycle, and shared services to drive system-wide performance.
    • Embedded in revenue cycle centers of excellence, payer contracting, reimbursement, and regional operations.
    • Drives accountability and feedback to improve collections initiatives, specifically payment variances for closed accounts from Epic expected reimbursement compared to actual reimbursement.
    • Provides a full month-end analytical report for each region.
    • Earns trust through responsiveness and proactive interaction with key stakeholders, supported by cross-functional responsibility across regions, revenue cycle operations, and critical shared services.
    • Partners with the data and analytics team to build robust reporting for CFOs.
    • Connects other modalities (e.g., Ambulatory, Physician Enterprises, HCC).
  • Regional Leadership and Ministry Support
    • Represents Revenue Cycle on regional leadership committees to help ministries move to common standards and practices while providing input back to revenue cycle on ministry needs for variation and best practice.
    • Establishes relationships with Chief Financial Officers in assigned markets and provides revenue cycle guidance during strategic initiative discussions.
    • Serves as the point of contact for ministry issues and concerns related to revenue cycle, working with revenue cycle leadership to resolve and communicate resolutions.
    • Regularly updates revenue cycle leadership on issues and concerns expressed by ministries, including local ministry strategic plans that may impact revenue cycle.
    • Participates in regional leadership meetings and shares current ministry issues or initiatives relevant to revenue cycle.
  • Growth, Expansion, and Industry Engagement
    • Leads regional growth and expansion work in connection with revenue cycle centers of excellence.
    • Supports development and implementation of additional services or new ministries as requested.
    • Engages with ministry or regional planning requiring approval through Growth and Expansion.
    • Provides input related to revenue cycle topics or engages system resources for input in preparation of Growth and Expansion requests.
    • Attends weekly Growth and Expansion meetings when relevant to ministry projects.
    • Participates in professional activities and affiliations to maintain knowledge of trends and changes in the healthcare environment.

    • Successfully completes Environment of Care HealthStream modules within required timeframes and participates in fire drills and emergency exercises.

Requirements

  • Education & Credentials
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or equivalent; or equivalent education/experience.
    • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related area of study (preferred).
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience & Expertise
    • 8 years of overall experience.
    • 6 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare administration/operations with an emphasis on management, business, or account management in a leadership capacity.
    • Track record in leadership, influencing others, and follow-through on issues management.
    • Proven initiative, ability to work with minimal supervision, and self-direction in all work activities.
    • Proven detailed understanding of revenue cycle concepts and issues.
    • Demonstrated ability to review revenue cycle reports and communicate trends and opportunities for improvement.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.

Schedule
