Director, Regulatory

Location: Menlo Park, CA – US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available. Compensation: $233,000 – $275,000 annually.

This role will provide business-aligned guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. You will partner with leaders, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex issues into practical recommendations. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen responsible execution, improve decision-making, and support sustainable growth within an Energy & Utilities environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead regulatory legal strategy for commercialization and manufacturing expansion
• Advise on environmental laws and regulatory compliance for operations
• Provide legal support for air permitting and environmental approvals
• Lead legal strategy on product regulatory requirements and certifications
• Advise on utility regulation and market rules for distributed generation
• Support project development by identifying regulatory risks and permitting needs
• Monitor and interpret legislation affecting distributed energy resources

Qualifications

• J.D. preferred with active U.S. state bar membership
• 15-20+ years of legal experience in environmental, energy, utility, or regulatory law
• Strong knowledge of environmental permitting and energy regulation
• Familiarity with the Inflation Reduction Act and related requirements
• Experience advising technology, manufacturing, or energy companies
• Excellent judgment and cross-functional collaboration skills
