Status: Full-Time, Salaried • Shift: Day • Pay Range: $141,600.00 - $191,300.00 per year

About the role

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Director of Radiation Oncology plays a critical role in leading the strategic, operational, and clinical success of the radiation oncology program. This leader partners with physicians, clinical teams, and executive leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and continued program growth while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and direct the daily activities of the Radiation Oncology staff to assure the accuracy of technical services and efficiency of the overall operation.
• Plan and direct the programs and activities for the Department; establish short- and long-range goals and objectives.
• Plan and direct the administrative, technical, and educational activities of the Radiation Therapy Department.
• Establish and maintain standards of performance governing all department techniques and procedures.
• Develop and monitor the operating and capital budgets for the department.
• Establish and maintain all department policies and procedures.
• Develop technical and/or clinical standards of performance for all department techniques and procedures.
• Standardize processes related to treatment techniques and workflows across both campuses, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and guidelines of regulatory agencies, including but not limited to TJC and DOH.
• Annually assess departmental operating and capital needs and submit budget requests accordingly.
• Control budgeted expenses and proactively manage budget variances.
• Maximize efficiency and quality through appropriate resource utilization.
• Project and appropriately staff the department to effectively function to demand.
• Prepare a variety of reports and maintain various records and statistics pertaining to departmental operations.
• Monitor patient satisfaction scores and identify opportunities to optimize patient satisfaction in all areas of the department.
• Improve processes and services to meet and exceed patient needs.
• Optimize employee satisfaction through utilization of sound employee relationship practices and maintain a high level of visibility and accessibility.
• Maintain positive relationships with all patients, visitors, physicians, employees, vendors, and the extended medical community.
• Recommend personnel transactions including salary changes, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
• Conduct annual performance appraisals.
• Identify and offer individual staff appropriate training and/or educational opportunities that optimize performance and satisfaction.
• Utilize technical resources across campuses as needed.
• Follow sound employee retention techniques.
• Develop and support staff education and cross-training on all procedures and radiation modalities.
• Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to maintain a diverse workflow.
• Take a leadership role in all departmental performance improvement activities.
• Develop and implement performance improvement initiatives in the departments through collaboration with system Radiation Oncology leaders; engage staff and physicians in such initiatives.
• Keep abreast of all new or upgraded equipment hardware and software and engage staff to promote smooth workflows.
• Oversee EMR setup for revenue optimization and documentation compliance.
• Provide input for template formation to ensure appropriate charge capture.
• Stay abreast of all national changes impacting radiation oncology charges and implement such changes in a timely manner.
• Have responsibility for all administrative, technical, and educational programs and activities of the department.
• Design and establish appropriate departmental education programs and radiation safety training for all radiation modalities.
• Ensure frequency of radiation safety education is compliant with accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• BLS through American Heart Association
• ARRT/NJDEP license required
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience required in radiation oncology as Chief Therapist or higher role

Preferred, not required: Master’s degree
