Director, Quality
About the role
The Director of Quality Assurance will lead and modernize QA strategy at Ivans, a division of Applied, focusing on leveraging AI throughout the software quality lifecycle. This role will shape quality assurance practices across various initiatives, including carrier connectivity, data exchange, analytics, and platform modernization.
Responsibilities
- Lead QA organization end-to-end — quality strategy, test planning, automation, release validation, performance testing, and regression coverage across Ivans platforms
- Define and execute a modern QA roadmap that embeds AI throughout the lifecycle: test case generation, automated test maintenance, defect prediction, log analysis, and risk-based release readiness
- Partner with engineering, product, architecture, DevOps, and data teams to build quality into every stage of design, development, deployment, and operations
- Drive test automation frameworks forward for backend services, APIs, distributed systems, event-driven workflows, batch processing, and cloud-native applications
- Set standards for responsible, AI-assisted QA — including validation of AI-generated outputs, quality controls, and governance
- Use metrics, dashboards, and quality intelligence to track release health, reduce escaped defects, and modernize legacy QA practices with more maintainable, scalable automation
- Mentor and develop QA managers, automation engineers, and quality engineers, building a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Significant experience leading QA, quality engineering, or test automation teams within a technology-driven organization
- A strong grasp of the full QA lifecycle — test strategy, planning, automation, regression and performance testing, release validation, and production quality monitoring
- Experience using AI, machine learning, or intelligent automation to improve QA processes, test generation, or defect analysis
- A track record of building and scaling modern automation frameworks for APIs, backend services, distributed systems, or cloud-native applications
- Familiarity with Java, Spring-based services, message queues, event-driven architectures, and cloud platforms
- Strong leadership experience — coaching managers, developing technical talent, and driving accountability across cross-functional teams
Qualifications
- Prior experience in insurance, financial services, SaaS, analytics, or high-volume transactional systems
- A degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience defining quality metrics and translating engineering data into practical, cross-team improvements

Pay
The targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position ranges from $150,000 - $200,000 USD. To determine a new team member’s starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone’s depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities.
Schedule
This role is available for remote work in either the United States or Canada.
