Director, Pipeline Commercialization Strategy (PCS) - Solid Tumor

About the Role

This leadership position is accountable for delivering the overall commercial strategy of the PCS oncology assets. The role involves partnering closely with R&D, in-line commercial teams in the US, international regions, and countries, and other key stakeholders to plan for the commercialization of assets in the Oncology pipeline, ensuring successful global product launches within the portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, champion, and communicate a compelling vision and strategy to all related stakeholder groups, gaining commitment and support to guide portfolio prioritization, asset strategies, and business development investments.
  • Understand the market, key segment value drivers, growth opportunities, target product profiles, product positioning, and revenue potential for multiple clinical-stage assets/indications within the franchise to drive winning portfolio value proposition plans and a strong P&L investment thesis.
  • (Co)-lead tumor disease area strategy teams for the development of multiple assets within the same tumor, when applicable, with an enterprise and portfolio mindset.
  • Define and drive strategic value creation across the lifecycle together with R&D and commercial cross-functional partners, integrating diverse internal and external perspectives.
  • Partner with Global Medical Affairs, Pharma Development, and Commercial cross-functional leaders to develop scientific platforms and drive data generation to satisfy Global and Area requirements for target product labels and claims.
  • Identify new value generation for the franchise to unlock further opportunities.
  • Drive innovative and novel ways to accelerate commercialization and maximize value for patients and the company for the franchise.
  • Prioritize key leverage points in the treatment process and develop behavioral objectives for each stakeholder group to define commercial strategy for the assets and the entire franchise.
  • Manage effective and transparent risk, opportunity, and issue management at strategic and operational levels across the franchise.
  • Initiate geo-strategy and indication prioritization within the franchise in partnership with R&D, Commercial cross-functional leaders, and Affiliates to formulate optimal reimbursement and access strategies to fully realize the value of multiple assets.
  • Exhibit clear and courageous leadership behavior and implement optimal program structures where appropriate to drive timely and effective decision-making.
  • Broaden AbbVie’s Oncology network and presence by building scientific, academic, KOL, payer, and patient advocacy relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree (MBA, Ph.D., or MD) preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in progressive commercial leadership roles in marketing and/or sales.
  • Recency of P&L ownership is preferred in the US or other major markets.
  • Successful launch experience preferred.
  • Managed care experience preferred.
  • Oncology therapeutic experience preferred.
  • Global experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and manage a complex set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic marketing skills, including the ability to develop commercial strategies based on a thorough and structured approach, paired with a strong scientific/clinical understanding.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with a thorough understanding of P&L drivers and the ability to develop appropriate investment and top-line sales forecasts that generate long-term value.
  • Strong executive presence and leadership skills, with the ability to present to senior leaders regularly and serve as a role model in the organization.
  • Demonstrated and consistent experience in successfully leading organizational change.
  • Outstanding partnering skills and the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and drive commercial decisions in a highly matrixed organization to accomplish business goals.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership, management, and coaching of teams and individuals, and in developing talent.
