Director, Pharmacy Care Delivery, Clinical Pharmacy

About the role

This position partners with leading physicians to develop, maintain, and implement advanced clinical practice standing orders, drug therapy management protocols, and guidelines (e.g., collaborative protocols with providers) to drive the growth and success of Pharmacy Services. The role focuses on identifying, developing, and optimizing complex direct patient care, drug utilization, and educational programs across multidisciplinary teams to positively impact patient adherence, outcomes, and provider prescribing practices. Responsibilities include removing roadblocks, connecting with senior leadership to align strategic priorities, and championing enterprise-wide initiatives to minimize gaps in drug utilization management.

• Communicate goals and objectives; analyze resources, costs, and forecasts; prioritize and distribute resources.
• Remove obstacles impacting performance; guide performance and develop contingency plans to ensure teams accomplish business objectives.
• Develop, communicate, and oversee implementation of strategies, programs, and processes to influence pharmaceutical and drug use utilization.
• Collaborate with senior healthcare providers to gather insights on market changes, new drugs, and trends; forecast impacts on drug use management.
• Track, assess, and forecast the impact of drug products and pharmaceutical developments on the program and other functions.
• Create standards for application strategies to ensure achievement of member financial and therapeutic objectives.
• Evaluate holistic sets of member data and devise strategic action plans to drive change.
• Identify, develop, and optimize educational needs for patients and providers to positively impact compliance and prescribing practices.
• Maintain productive relationships with care providers and members; collaborate with multidisciplinary committees to develop and update drug formularies and clinical guidelines.
• Lead design efforts for therapeutic regimens and programs applicable across patients in multiple services, integrating patient-specific disease and drug information, practice standards, and quality-of-life issues.
• Direct development, implementation, and coordination of regional, hospital, or ambulatory drug initiatives, formulary management activities, and KP-related drug trials.
• Oversee processes to ensure safe, rational, and cost-effective prescribing of targeted medications and medication classes.
• Direct processes to understand clinician or department-level decisions, support, and feedback to strategize long-term support for drug use processes.
• Direct comprehensive pharmaceutical care and optimal utilization of resource strategies across hospital, acute, and ambulatory patient-care settings.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulatory bodies, and established quality standards; guide implementation of policies and procedures.
• Direct investigation, response, and resolution of highly complex escalated member inquiries and concerns with innovation.
• Collaborate with physicians, medical professionals, and health plan personnel to assess, resolve, and ensure consistent quality and process outcome measures.

Requirements

• Doctorate of Pharmacy or equivalent degree (e.g., Bachelors of Pharmacy from a School of Pharmacy) AND completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency at time of hire AND minimum four (4) years of experience as a Pharmacist and/or Pharmacist Intern in pharmacy or a directly related field.
• OR Doctorate of Pharmacy or equivalent degree (e.g., Bachelors of Pharmacy from a School of Pharmacy) AND minimum six (6) years of experience as a Pharmacist and/or Pharmacist Intern in pharmacy or a directly related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
• Pharmacist License (California) required at hire.
• National Provider Identifier within 6 months of hire.

Pay

$257,000 - $297,000 per year. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency.
