About the role

The Director of Pharmacy Operations is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across both front-end and back-end pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for pharmacy technician operational teams through direct management of supervisors and managers responsible for front-end and back-end pharmacy operations.
  • Drive operational excellence initiatives focused on patient safety, prescription accuracy, workflow optimization, fulfillment efficiency, quality outcomes, and speed to therapy.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to establish, communicate, and execute clearly aligned operational goals and performance expectations across all pharmacy operational areas.
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze operational metrics, KPIs, productivity standards, turnaround times, fulfillment performance, and service level outcomes.
  • Partner with director of compliance and regulatory affairs to ensure compliance with all pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, company policies, HIPAA requirements, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Lead workforce planning activities to ensure appropriate staffing levels, productivity standards, and operational efficiency across departments.
  • Promote employee engagement, professional development, coaching, succession planning, and leadership growth across operational teams.
  • Partner with internal departments and cross-functional teams to improve communication, coordination, and overall program effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and strategic partnerships with external clients, vendors, manufacturers, and program stakeholders.
  • Identify operational risks and implement process improvements to enhance service delivery, patient experience, fulfillment accuracy, and business performance.
  • Support escalated operational, fulfillment, and customer service issues while ensuring timely resolution and service recovery.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing in Arizona with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states as required for business needs.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in specialty/mail-order pharmacy operations
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of management experience, overseeing no fewer than 3 direct/indirect reports.
