DIRECTOR PHARMACY
About the role
Reports to a Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services and is responsible for directing the hospital's Pharmacy program in accordance with laws relating to the storage, compounding and distribution of medications. Regularly contacts pharmaceutical vendors in order to obtain bids and/or negotiate prices. Establishes department purchasing parameters and oversees acquisition, storage and inventory maintenance of pharmaceutical medications and supplies. Establishes and maintains record keeping systems for recording patient charges and maintaining adequate controls over requisitioning and dispensing of all pharmaceuticals. Regularly consults with medical staff regarding information obtained on medications and use of drug therapy. Serves as the Secretary of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
Responsibilities
- Develops, secures approval of, implements, monitors adherence to and administers department policies and procedures and ensures they are in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, the standards of practice as prescribed by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the standards of hospital services identified by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
- Recommends and implements agreed upon long and short-term departmental goals and objectives in order to enhance department services.
