Director Payments Software Development

About the role

Are you a Developer turned Technical Manager with a strong understanding of banking products in one or more of the following: US ACH Payments, FedWire, SWIFT, Real Time Payments, FedNow, Payment Channels, or Commercially Available Payment Solutions? This role is part of the US Technology Organization focused on Payments Technology Transformation for City National Bank. You will work collaboratively with the RBC Global Payments Technology organization to deliver and support next-generation payment solutions for the US payments market. This opportunity involves developing innovative ideas and solutions to modernize the payments domain, supporting clients and operations colleagues, and leading a team of software developers to build and transform payment technologies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain relationships with business partners, payment network providers, and third-party payment solution providers; communicate with IT and business management; monitor prompt response and support for technical issues.
• Ensure high standards and quality of technical work.
• Direct reviews of tools and technologies to improve performance, reduce costs, and shorten time to market.
• Direct, manage, and participate in the delivery of large and complex application development projects with a strong focus on execution.
• Define strategies and deliver solutions to support client needs using the latest technologies and development practices, shaping the future of business banking.
• Lead and manage high-performing teams, building engineering capability through hiring, retaining top talent, and developing employee skills and future technical leaders.
• Contribute to architecture and design work, developing code structures that align with approved architectures.
• Engage in ideation, including high-level scoping and estimation to support effort prioritization and planning.
• Actively seek knowledge about new technologies and how they can address current and foreseeable challenges.

Requirements

• 10+ years of banking industry experience within the payments domain.
• Strong understanding of banking products in one or more of the following: US ACH Payments, FedWire, SWIFT, Real Time Payments, FedNow, Payment Channels, or Commercially Available Payment Solutions.
• Experience leading teams responsible for architecting, designing, and building mission-critical software services on .Net platforms.
• Experience leading teams to develop highly complex and concurrent applications.
• Ability to contribute and work well in a team setting.
• Ability to navigate complex, high-pressure situations and resolve conflicts constructively.
• Good communication skills.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $160,000–$275,000, depending on experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions, and business needs. You may also have the potential to earn more through RBC’s discretionary variable compensation program, which increases total compensation if the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.

Location: Goldman Sachs Tower, 30 Hudson Street, Jersey City, United States of America. Full-time, salaried position with 40 work hours per week.
