Primary Function

Plans, organizes, and directs the Office of Academic Advising that serves undergraduate students with an emphasis on students in transition; administers and implements operations of University-wide academic advisement and course planning for new student orientation; directs programming for and advises new students, and students in transition; directs, trains, and evaluates Academic Advising advisors; and supports and coordinates with offices serving student success, persistence, and graduation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or related field
  • At least five years advising or related student success experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Successful experience in developing productive working relationships with persons at all organizational levels and external constituencies
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and contribute to fostering a collaborative team environment required
  • Understanding of student success, retention, persistence concepts, and college student transition theories
  • Management, administrative, or supervisory experience, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing staff
  • Strong working knowledge of institutional policies, curriculum requirements, and student privacy policies
  • Academic advising experience in a higher education setting preferred
