Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of music for weekly worship services, including song selection, arrangement and rehearsals in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
- Recruit, develop, and shepherd musicians and vocalists, fostering both musical growth and spiritual maturity.
- Plan and lead weekly rehearsals with preparation, clarity, and encouragement.
- Cookordinate and schedule volunteer teams for Sunday services and special services (e.g., Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter).
- Cultivate a catalog of songs and liturgical elements that reflect biblical truth, theological depth, and congregational accessibility (primarily, Trinity Hymnal & Indelible Grace).
- Provide musical leadership during Sunday worship services (instrumental and/or vocal).
- Work with church leadership to incorporate appropriate artistic expressions (e.g., Scripture readings, visual elements, seasonal liturgies) into worship.
- Maintain and organize music resources, charts, and equipment.
- Encourage a culture of joyful, congregational singing rather than performance-driven worship.
- Communicate regularly with team regarding schedules, expectations, & encouragement.
- Plan for at least one Sunday off a month for each member of the music team.
Terms Of Employment
- This is a part-time position, averaging approximately [10-15] hours per week, including rehearsals, Sunday services, and preparation time.
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- The Director of Music / Arts is expected to be a committed participant in the life of New City Presbyterian Church, including regular attendance in corporate worship.
- Agreement with the church’s theological commitments and values.
- Regular meetings with the Senior Pastor for planning, evaluation, and encouragement.
- Employment is at-will and subject to the policies and procedures of New City Pres.
