Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the TRIO Upward Bound Math & Science Program. The director works with secondary school students to improve their academic preparation and provide academic support sessions to help prepare them for post-secondary education. In addition, the director develops and implements support services which strengthens the math & science skills of participating students, increase the percentage of high school students who graduate from high school, apply to and enroll into college.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Business Administration, Communications, Mathematics, Science, or a related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of administrative or program management experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of college access initiatives and the PK–16 educational pipeline.
- Working knowledge of TRIO regulations, EDGAR, and federal grant requirements.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and build collaborative relationships with schools, families, colleges, and community organizations.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting STEM education, college readiness, and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing programs and initiatives designed to prepare low-income students for college;
- At least two years administrative experience in an educational setting working with students.
- Experience in grant writing and grant administration, including budget management;
- Experience working with TRIO, or any other college access programs.
- Experience in working with middle and high school students, parents, educators, administrators and teachers.
- Experience working with university administrators and faculty members, public school administrators and teachers.
- Experience collecting and analyzing data using various statistical procedures.
- Experience preparing annual reports and performance reports for funding agencies.
- Experience hiring, training and supervising staff.
