About the role

The Director of Underwriting Solutions at Frontline Insurance is responsible for driving process improvement, coordinating AI and risk intelligence, deploying generative AI for underwriting, and managing technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
  • Identify underwriting processes suitable for automation.
  • Gather feedback from underwriters to refine tools and maximize usability.
  • Provide thought leadership on reducing cycle time and optimizing decision-making.
  • Represent underwriting in the design, training, and validation of AI-driven risk models.
  • Translate underwriting needs to IT and helps review requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Review AI outputs to ensure they support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Deploy generative AI for risk summaries, policy narratives, and customer communications.
  • Establish governance for prompt libraries and output quality.
  • Train underwriters on ethical and effective use of AI in underwriting.
  • Liaise between underwriting leadership, technology, and compliance to align initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT, BPO and other teams to integrate automation tools into underwriting systems.
  • Represent underwriting in digital transformation committees.
  • Communicate benefits of automation and AI to underwriting teams.
  • Lead cost assessments for underwriting technology solutions.
  • Develop cost-benefit analyses factoring in underwriting impact and operational efficiency.
  • Present findings to underwriting leadership for informed decision-making.
  • Manage procurement for underwriting technology solutions.
  • Draft requirements, evaluate proposals, and negotiate contracts.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and ensure compliance with underwriting standards.

Requirements

  • Experience with automated underwriting systems (AUS), rules engines, and workflow tools.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions.
  • Strong strategic thinking and experience working with IT, compliance, and other teams to align technology with business objectives.
  • Ability to drive adoption of new tools through training and communication.
  • Proven experience leading transformation initiatives.
  • Expertise in sourcing and managing technology vendors for insurance solutions.
  • Ability to draft clear requirements and evaluate proposals for underwriting technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning or related fields or a minimum of three years of recent experience in technology with a proven record of leading IT transformations.
  • A 2-20 or 20-44 P&C insurance license or a 4-40 CSR insurance license must be successfully obtained.
