Responsibilities
- Provide expertise, guidance, and support to regional offices.
- Develop underwriting guidance as a key member of the underwriting team.
- Administer underwriting best practices consistent with Berkley Southeast Insurance Group profit and production objectives.
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines.
- Maintain underwriting quality to ensure proper execution of guidelines and appetite.
- Monitor product, class, state, and Profit Center performance.
- Conduct portfolio reviews to identify loss drivers and make recommendations.
- Collaborate with actuarial staff, systems, and Corporate Underwriting Directors on form development and rate, rules, forms, and state filings.
- Work with Corporate Underwriting Directors and underwriters on referral accounts.
- Develop and conduct training sessions to enhance technical proficiency of underwriting staff.
- Promote consistency and quality of underwriting performance through the BSIG Quality Control Program and Profit Center audits.
- Consult with Underwriting Leadership on changes to Underwriter authority based on quality review information and assessment of technical knowledge.
- Stay updated on industry developments through participation in meetings, seminars, and education sessions.
- Understand BSIG’s business and its success factors.
- Participate in other underwriting-related projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of progressive Commercial Lines Insurance experience, demonstrating high-level technical underwriting skills.
- Casualty and/or Property underwriting experience, including lines such as Property, General Liability, Automobile, Worker’s Compensation, and Umbrella.
- Preferred CPCU or CIC designation.
- Ability to analyze situations effectively and present logical solutions to problems.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Solid knowledge of insurance products, coverage, market segments, and the marketplace.
- Action-oriented with a strong drive to achieve results.
Benefits
- Base Salary Range: $100,000 – $185,000
