Director of Technology

WBZ-TV/CBS Boston is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Technology to lead the technical strategy and execution of our multi-platform content center. This high-impact leadership role ensures the operational excellence, innovation, and future-readiness of our broadcast and streaming infrastructure.

About the role

Reporting directly to the President and General Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the Division Senior Vice President of Engineering, you will shape the technical vision of a modern television station and streaming operation in one of the nation’s most competitive media markets.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a forward-looking technology strategy aligned with organizational goals
• Lead all engineering and technical operations for broadcast and digital streaming platforms
• Oversee technical infrastructure supporting news production, content distribution, and multi-platform delivery
• Drive innovation across television and streaming workflows
• Ensure regulatory compliance, signal integrity, cybersecurity, and operational reliability
• Collaborate with station and division leadership on capital planning, vendor relationships, and technology budgets
• Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering specialist team
• Partner with Director of News Operations and Production to prioritize station projects

Requirements

• Proven leadership experience in broadcast engineering and/or multi-platform media environments
• Deep expertise in television transmission, studio systems, newsroom workflows, and streaming technologies
• Strong strategic planning and project management skills
• Experience leading technical transformation initiatives
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and executive leadership
• Knowledge of FCC regulations and industry best practices
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred

Pay

Hiring salary range: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00. The range applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
