Director of Supply Chain Operations

About the Role

The Director of Supply Chain leads a talented team in driving all aspects of supply chain operations for our early-stage but rapidly growing company. This role entails developing, executing, and improving processes, tools, and systems that encompass forecasting, sourcing, procurement, outsourced manufacturing, inventory management, 3PL management, fulfillment, and logistics. You will work nimbly and tactically, managing day-to-day supply chain activities while also strategically implementing practices for continuous improvements and future growth. As both player and coach, you will digest spreadsheets and develop team members as technical subject matter experts and people managers.

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Operations

• Own ultimate accountability for delivery to customers, direct and wholesale, on time and in full; accountable for processes, activities, systems, and people that enable effective and efficient customer fulfillment, including forecasting, supply planning, production scheduling, purchase order management, and logistics
• Oversee supplier/manufacturer management
• Oversee supply chain and inventory management to ensure that Sunday is positioned to meet sales goals and growth plans without running out of stock and overcommitting to inventory
• Develop and continually refine S&OP and other cross-functional planning processes
• Participate in new product development efforts to ensure projects are completed on-schedule
• Maintain, improve, and create new key relationships across suppliers and other network partners
• Source and develop new products and components, in partnership with the R&D team
• Oversee transportation domestically and internationally
• Engage with the Retail and DTC teams to ensure collaboration with each function that delivers success for both parties

Performance Tracking

• Define, refine, and establish key performance metrics and benchmarks to measure the success of materials and logistics initiatives
• Monitor and track program effectiveness using reports, dashboards, and scorecards on the operational status and maturity of programs

Strategic Planning

• Create the strategic plan for supply chain based on evolving business plans and market dynamics
• Determine the overall optimal supply chain future state (capacities, costs, capabilities, geographics, etc.), leveraging best practices and innovative solutions
• Work directly with management teams to define future states and how to achieve them; drive a balance of current business needs with future investments
• Lead cross-functional, strategic projects for Supply Chain; scope, plan, and execute financial and quantitative analyses to yield critical answers to strategic questions
• Partner with functional owners to translate strategic objectives into a project roadmap including people, process, systems, and assets
• Connect the dots across multiple strategies and time horizons, maintaining a holistic understanding of the business across all functions to evolve long-term strategies

Technology Enablement

• Understand and improve current supply chain technology in line with short and long-term objectives
• Evaluate best-in-class supply chain technology and infrastructure suitable for the scope and size of the business, scalable for future growth
• Contribute to the technology strategy by identifying, assessing, and recommending external trends in technology and methodologies

Finance and Accounting Partnership

• Partner with Finance and Accounting for cash forecasting and cost classifications relating to purchasing projections, COGS analyses, operational expenditures, and capital expenditures
• Drive development and tracking of supply chain budgets in accordance with the overall strategy to achieve company goals
• Contribute to operations planning processes including SKU rationalization, departmental planning, revenue forecasting, and completing a final budget

Management Responsibilities

• Daily management of the Operations Department
• Meet with each of your reports to create action plans, check-in on project/performance, and discuss opportunities for improvement
• Ensure that your reports have the resources needed to create innovative processes that drive supply chain efficiency
• Coach and manage your team through technical obstacles, providing direction for improvement
• Enable your reports to have ownership of their function and work autonomously
• Mentor, coach, and grow current team members in technical subject matters and managerial competencies
• Advise department managers on strategies to advance their teams and cultivate their development as leaders
• Implement processes and systems that scale and support a high-functioning team
• Scope, recruit, and hire additional talent as needed
• Foster a culture where routine feedback is embraced

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive supply chain leadership, including Director roles or equivalent
• Functional expertise across sourcing, outsourced manufacturing, 3PL logistics, quality, and cost optimization
• Experience in ecommerce, direct-to-consumer, and the CPG business to leverage best practices and foster innovation in operations
• Experience sourcing from and managing international suppliers
• Detail-oriented, assiduous, with a drive for results; positive, collaborative, flexible, transparent, passionate about learning, and empathetic
• Ability to prioritize and drive many projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency
• Strong leadership skills to inspire and motivate your department towards high performance
