About the role
The Director of Student Services manages and directs all services and functions related to students enrolled at the School of Dental Medicine. The Director serves as the primary interface for student services, maintaining supportive relationships with students throughout their enrollment and beyond graduation. This position interacts with students, faculty, staff, administrators, community organizations, professional associations, state agencies, and corporate entities on student-related matters. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support student-related activities.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a resource and advocate for students (20%)
- Coordinates and directs graduation-related events and student-related events for the School of Dental Medicine (20%)
- Manages student communications (15%)
- Oversees functions of all School of Dental Medicine student organizations (15%)
- Manages student travel budget and related travel logistics for professional meetings (15%)
- Manages student housing program for D4 students’ rotations (10%)
- Handles compliance-related responsibilities (5%)
- Travel may be required for trade shows and/or recruitment fairs
Requirements
- Master’s degree in education, communications, student services, or related field; OR bachelor’s degree and minimum of two years of experience in education, communications, student services, or related field. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Demonstrated experience establishing relationships and collaborating collegially and effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing and managing work, supervising staff effectively, meeting deadlines, and solving problems independently and swiftly.
- Position requires a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire. A valid driver’s license must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Preferred qualifications
- Higher education experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a dental or health professions education setting, preferably in student affairs.
- Tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Salary
The recruitment range is $62,115 – $66,950; salary may be outside this range depending on budget, UNC salary administration, and candidate qualifications.
