About the role

SUSLA is seeking a Director of Student and Campus Life to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for student engagement and a proven track record in student leadership development, event coordination, and exceptional communication.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain statistical reports, surveys, and other records to assess accomplishments and student learning outcomes.
  • Analyze data related to student participation and program evaluation; develop organizational work processes to facilitate attainment of established program goals and objectives.
  • Supervise, create, and implement programming for residential life, commuter students, students at the Metro Campus and Aerospace Center. Assist in establishing and implementing student policies.
  • Manage multiple budgets.
  • Supervise Miss SUSLA and her Royal Court and manage the student election process.
  • Maintain knowledge relative to best practices, laws, policies, and procedures relative to student life.
  • Provide strategic direction, implementation, and communication about all facets of student life programming using research and best practices to inform this work.
  • Provide and conduct leadership seminars, training, workshops, and campus-wide events for students, student government organizations, and other student groups and organizations. Also provides student leadership training, mentorship, volunteer and service learning opportunities for students.
  • Support, and direct to student groups, organizations, and advisors through leadership, organizational, and resource development. This includes support to student clubs and individuals.
  • Coordinate program coordination activities with other student services functions and instructional programs; provide technical expertise and input concerning student activities.
  • Coordinate with professional acts to book, negotiate contracts, and coordinate performances, speeches, symposiums, etc…
  • Create inclusive processes and make informed decisions based on community input.
  • Develop the student life curriculum centered around the core values of the school which incorporates belonging and social-emotional learning.
  • Collaborate with the division head in leading new student onboarding and plan new student events and programming throughout the school year.
  • In partnership with the division head and admissions department, develop and lead family programming, including new student/family orientations and retention/admission events.
  • Mediate and resolve discipline and honor issues.
  • Consult with the division head on repeat and/or significant discipline and honor issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management, mass communication, education or related fields from an accredited college or university; 3 years' experience in student leadership development, event coordination and planning, and exceptional communication skills.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in campus recreation or community service, residential life, auxiliary units, or related area.
  • Must have problem solving skills, ability to work many nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel and operate a motor vehicle and feel comfortable driving a 15-passenger van for student trips.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, public administration, mass communication, education or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive and self-sufficient with the ability to manage up and across.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills (ability to meet deadlines).
  • Initiative and leadership qualities, with the ability to relate to diverse student populations.
  • Able to build relationships with academic partners.
  • Strong attention to detail, adept in creative problem-solving, and resourceful.

Compensation

$45,000 - $55,000
