About the Role
The Director of Student Affairs Assessment, Training, and Professional Development provides strategic leadership for assessment, continuous improvement, and professional learning initiatives across the Division of Student Affairs. This role is responsible for advancing a culture of evidence-based practice, supporting staff development, and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, accreditation standards, and best practices within the UNC System.
Division Overview
The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development. It aids, directs, and informs students about services and programs that expand students’ educational experiences and prepare them for diverse lives in local and global communities. The division oversees out-of-classroom and off-campus aspects of student life, including student engagement and leadership, career services, student disability services, residential life, student activities, student conduct, special programs and services, and student health & counseling services.
Responsibilities
- Assessment and Decision Making
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive assessment strategy for the Division of Student Affairs.
- Design and oversee assessment tools, surveys, and evaluation frameworks to measure program effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and service delivery.
- Prepare reports to inform decision-making, strategic planning, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Institutional Research, Academic Affairs) to align assessment efforts.
- Training
- Develop and implement a comprehensive professional development program for Student Affairs staff, including onboarding, ongoing training, and leadership development.
- Coordinate workshops, seminars, and learning communities focused on student engagement, compliance, and best practices.
- Identify training needs and create targeted learning opportunities to enhance staff performance and effectiveness.
- Support the development of student leader training frameworks across departments.
- Planning and Organizing
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the division.
- Partner with department leaders to assess program outcomes and implement improvements.
- Support strategic planning initiatives by integrating assessment data and professional development priorities.
- Facilitate retreats, planning sessions, staff recognition, and team development activities.
- Supervision/Leadership
- Supervise assigned staff and/or graduate assistants.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to enhance team effectiveness.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Vice Chancellor on matters related to assessment, training, and organizational development.
- Communication
- Serve as liaison to internal and external stakeholders on assessment and professional development initiatives.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to campus constituents.
- Represent the Division on university committees and system-wide initiatives as appropriate.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in Student Affairs, assessment, or professional development.
- Experience developing and facilitating training or professional development programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the UNC System or a similar public higher education environment.
- Knowledge of student learning outcomes assessment.
- Strong understanding of student development theory and best practices in Student Affairs.
