Director of Structures
About the role
We are seeking a recognized industry expert to lead and grow our Bridge Design services in the Colorado market as the Director of Structures. We’ll leverage your credibility and relationships in Colorado as you navigate the market’s unique nuances to drive growth and maximize market penetration. You’ll balance proven team management and project leadership experience with market expertise and confident communication. Your ability to develop strategic client partnerships will enhance our service offerings while maintaining and extending our client base. You’ll comfortably collaborate across business units and practice areas to ensure staff and company success.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue strategic partnership, business development, and individual bridge design project opportunities.
- Lead a team performing bridge design and other structural design for a wide variety of clients including the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), cities, counties, and private entities.
- Use innovative approaches to provide clients with efficient designs focused on quality.
- Lead contract negotiations and prepare detailed scope of services, estimate fees, and establish budgets for potential projects.
- Manage strategic pursuits and projects.
- Provide team management and program leadership, including talent acquisition and staff development.
- Explore, suggest, respond to, and track upcoming projects and programs.
- Monitor backlog, pipeline, and opportunity management within a CRM environment.
- Analyze financial performance and direct activities to improve performance results.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or comparable field.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
- Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in bridge and related structural design.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado.
- Experience working with CDOT.
- Familiarity with LRFD design procedures, bridge design software, calculation software such as Microsoft Excel or MathCAD, and basic drawing skills in either MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Proven engineering design experience.
- Excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Eagerness to lead, share knowledge, and mentor less experienced staff, as well as learn from more experienced engineers and technicians.
- Certification as a Bridge Safety Inspection Team Leader preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to develop and leverage business relationships in the Colorado market.
- Ability to drive growth within a team and desire to scale success to multi-disciplinary team growth.

- Strong understanding of the Colorado marketplace including clients, project opportunities, and project budgets.
