About the role
At Cannon School, we believe athletics are an extension of the classroom, developing resilience, leadership, teamwork, and character. We are seeking an experienced, relationship-driven Director of Sports Performance to lead and elevate our comprehensive Sports Performance program for middle and upper school student-athletes.
Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the Director of Sports Performance will provide the vision and leadership for a best-in-class strength and conditioning program that supports athletic excellence while prioritizing the long-term health and development of every student-athlete. This individual will collaborate closely with coaches, athletic trainers, college counseling, and school leadership to design innovative, evidence-based training programs that enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and foster lifelong wellness.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional leader who thrives in a collaborative environment, builds meaningful relationships with students and coaches, and is passionate about developing young people both on and off the field. This role also oversees the daily operations of the Sports Performance program, mentors assistant coaches and interns, and contributes as a member of Cannon's Extended Athletics Leadership Team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and elevate Cannon School’s comprehensive Sports Performance program for middle and upper school student-athletes.
- Provide vision and leadership for a best-in-class strength and conditioning program that supports athletic excellence and prioritizes long-term health.
- Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, college counseling, and school leadership to design evidence-based training programs.
- Enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and foster lifelong wellness through innovative training initiatives.
- Oversee daily operations of the Sports Performance program.
- Mentor assistant coaches and interns.
- Contribute as a member of Cannon’s Extended Athletics Leadership Team.
- Build meaningful relationships with students and coaches to support holistic development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Current CSCS certification.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs.
- Independent school experience preferred.
- Experience leading athletic performance programs preferred.
