About the Role

The Director of Special Events manages all responsibilities of special events to meet or exceed organizational goals. Events include peer-to-peer fundraising such as Trivia Bowls and other third-party fundraisers, the annual Hall of Achievement gala, three golf tournaments, and a clay shoot. This role ensures each event is well organized, within budget, and on pace to meet or exceed fundraising goals through self-motivated ownership and collaboration with committee members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage fundraising special events, increasing revenue through corporate and individual sponsorships, and maintaining responsible budgets.
  • Develop a qualified donor pipeline, document pledges/payments and activities for each assigned account or event, and assist in managing invoicing and aged receivable collection.
  • Ensure data integrity in the constituent management database.
  • Coordinate all special events, including evenings and weekends, and secure additional staff and external volunteers to ensure smooth execution.
  • Lead all events with a high level of enthusiasm and integrity.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and committee members to align on goals and commitments for each event.
  • Prepare materials for meetings with event committees and corporate partners.
  • Develop marketing collateral, brochures, and fundraising support materials.
  • Maintain detailed records for each event, including meeting notes and income/expense data.
  • Identify and solicit prospects for in-kind donations for all events as needed.
  • Assess additional special event opportunities, including potential third-party partnerships.
  • Maintain a portfolio of donors/prospects and participate in strong stewardship practices.
  • Develop and distribute a quarterly newsletter to share updates on the agency’s activities and accomplishments.
  • Create social media content for all special events.
  • Monitor, edit, and post agency-wide social media per requests from other team members.
  • Maintain the agency website.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 3-5 years of equivalent experience in special events and sales.
  • Ability to speak in large public settings.
  • Proven experience in meeting deadlines and exceeding goals.

Pay

$70,000 – $75,000 annually, based on experience.
