Full-time
About the role
PreVeil is looking for a Software Quality Assurance Director to lead the team responsible for the quality of our end-to-end encrypted email and file-sharing platform. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will take ownership of a QA function that today is largely manual and hands-on — deeply skilled at finding real-world, at-scale issues in our web, Windows, and macOS applications — and grow it into a more mature, automation-forward organization without losing that rigor.
Responsibilities
- Define the overall test strategy across web, desktop (Windows/macOS), and mobile, spanning manual and automated coverage
- Set standards for test design, edge-case and scale coverage, and defect triage across the engineering org
- Own test planning for major releases, prioritizing real-world usage scenarios and at-scale robustness
- Grow the QA function from its current manual-testing strength into a more automation-forward practice
- Introduce and scale automated testing (e.g., Selenium) and scripting (Python/Shell) where it adds the most leverage
- Evaluate and roll out bug tracking and test management tooling (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr) to fit team scale
- Leverage AI tools like Claude/ChatGPT to improve test coverage and automation
- Hire, mentor, and manage a QA team of manual and, over time, automation-focused engineers
- Establish clear defect management, escalation, and communication processes within an Agile/Scrum workflow
- Champion a quality-first culture across the product organization, not just within QA
- Own the go/no-go quality gate for production releases
- Build QA familiarity with encryption, privacy, and security testing concepts specific to our product
- Ensure test practices and evidence support CMMC, NIST 800-171, and FedRAMP requirements alongside Compliance
Requirements
- 10+ years in software quality assurance of a widely deployed enterprise/consumer client application, with 5+ years in a QA leadership or management role
- Track record leading or scaling a QA team, including test strategy, process, and hiring
- Proven experience testing complex web applications and desktop applications on both Windows and macOS
- Strong background in file management testing — file operations, synchronization, and data integrity
- Experience with scale, robustness, and real-world scenario testing of highly distributed applications
- Well-versed in bug tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr)
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain risk and quality status to both engineers and executives
Nice to Have
- Experience introducing test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium) into a primarily manual QA practice
- Scripting experience (Python, Shell) for troubleshooting or test tooling
- Experience testing iOS and/or Android applications
- Understanding of encryption, privacy, and security testing concepts
- Prior QA leadership at a company selling into government or defense customers, or familiarity with CMMC/NIST 800-171/FedRAMP
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Familiarity with performance testing tools
Pay
The pay range for this role is $200,000 - $230,000 USD per year.

This is a hybrid role based in Boston, MA, US.
