Director of Security
About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive security and loss prevention programs for a community. This includes managing security personnel, conducting inspections, reporting irregularities, and assisting with investigations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and train security personnel and contractors
- Schedule shifts and breaks for security personnel and contractors
- Plan, develop, and administer a comprehensive security system
- Investigate infractions of rules, regulations, and policies
- Inspect the community daily to assess security needs
- Report irregularities and hazards to appropriate personnel
- Review and update security measures and procedures
- Assess security weaknesses and make recommendations
- Document, interview, and assist residents and employees regarding security issues
- Aid in the preparation of reports and insurance claims
- Aid in the fire and safety program
- Schedule and coordinate service elevators
- Solicit, evaluate, and select bids for contracted security personnel
- Supervise personnel, service contracts, and security projects
- Evaluate and maintain equipment and materials
- Administer the community's key system, fob system, and employee locker assignments
- Absorb and assign parking spaces to residents and employees
- Interview, hire, supervise, train, motivate, and manage security personnel and/or contractors
- Recognize and report concerns regarding residents' physical, mental, and/or emotional status
- Carry a cell phone, participate in Manager on Duty rotations, and work on-call as necessary
Requirements
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or business management, four years of experience in a similar setting, and five years of supervisory experience. Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of security and investigation procedures, state and federal laws, material safety data sheets, and ability to manage anger, fear, and hostility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or business management preferred
- Four years of experience preferable in a healthcare, residential building, or similar community in a law enforcement/security setting
- Five years of supervisory experience
- Thorough working knowledge of security and investigation procedures and protocol
- Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets
- Ability to understand and read technical manuals and schematics
- Ability to manage anger, fear, and hostility in a calm and disarming manner
- Ability to act with patience, tact, and courtesy in dealing with residents and contractors under demanding and difficult conditions
- Sensitivity and understanding of issues related to aging

Benefits
