About the Role

The Director of Security & Safety is responsible for leading all hotel safety and security programs to ensure a secure, welcoming, and well-managed environment for guests, team members, and visitors. Reporting to the General Manager or Director of Rooms, this role provides strategic oversight of security operations, risk management, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and team leadership across the property.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Security Supervisors and Security Officers, overseeing recruitment, selection, coaching, performance management, and daily operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure that security logs, reports, and documentation are accurate and complete, while maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability, and guest service throughout the department.
  • Promote a culture of safety, support OSHA compliance, identify and mitigate workplace hazards, develop safety initiatives, and coordinate training programs that strengthen awareness and preparedness.
  • Oversee fire life safety programs, CPR certification efforts, workplace violence prevention training, and other corporate-required programs.
  • Lead investigations involving accidents, theft, property loss, and other unlawful or disruptive activities, including gathering information, documenting findings, coordinating with management and law enforcement, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Manage department scheduling, payroll approval, forecasting, and preparation of corporate property loss reports.
  • Oversee the Lost and Found program and support the resolution of guest concerns and security-related incidents.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and patrols to verify that all areas remain safe and secure.
  • Collaborate with hotel leadership, convention and catering teams, outside agencies, and law enforcement partners to integrate security considerations into hotel operations and special events.
  • Serve in the Manager-on-Duty rotation, oversee security escorts, maintain departmental equipment and uniforms, manage security technology systems and databases, update departmental procedures, and participate in hotel meetings and cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; related four-year degree preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License in good standing required.
  • Management experience required.
  • 5+ years of security or related experience required.
  • Hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills, proficiency with Windows-based software, sound judgment, and effective communication abilities.

Physical and Work Environment

The position requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, sitting, communication, and observation. Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping may be required, along with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Because hotel operations function 24 hours a day, seven days a week, schedule flexibility and responsiveness to operational needs are critical.

Direct Reports

Direct reports may include the Assistant Director of Safety & Security, Security Officers, Lost and Found Officers, Dispatchers, and Security Supervisors.
