About the role
This position serves as the leader of the Counseling Department in the middle school, overseeing academic, social/emotional, and career/career planning domains. Administrative responsibilities include curriculum development, tiered support systems, school leadership, student incentives, and teacher support.
Responsibilities
- Leadership, supervision, and evaluation of department support personnel and school counselors.
- Provide individual and group counseling services for students and classroom lessons on relevant topics.
- Coordinate outside counseling services.
- Create, maintain, and adjust the master schedule annually.
- Maintain student records.
- Oversight of enrollment and placement of students.
- Oversight of all 504 Plans.
- Participate in annual case conferences for special needs students.
- Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders including parents, teachers, students, other staff, township leaders, and community partners.
- Run reports in Skyward and pull data for tiered interventions.
- Supervise activities during and outside of the school day.
- Achieve professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
Requirements
- Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.
- Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs, and educational opportunities.
- Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation for performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Skills
- Use standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, calculators, and telephones.
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Benefits
- Work 205 days per year.
Pay
$X per hour or $Y per day, depending on the pay rate.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Seldom: Stand for extended periods of time, lift 25 pounds, carry 25 pounds, reach in all directions, operate job-related equipment, see for reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter, communicate for a normal conversation.
License/Registration/Certification
Indiana School Counseling License required.
Education
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Previous experience is preferred.
