Director of School Accountability
About the Role
The Director of School Accountability will report to the Executive Director of Accountability and play a major role in quality oversight of school performance in New Orleans. This position manages the annual reviews, ongoing monitoring, and oversight of NOLA Public Schools' (NOLA-PS) Charter School Accountability Framework (CSAF), statutory, and contractual provisions for a caseload of the district’s charter schools. The role involves consistent reviews of school performance data, development of recommendations for district oversight, and managing day-to-day relationships with charter schools. A successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial, charter school-savvy expert with a deep commitment to the mission and guiding principles of NOLA-PS, thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Act as the lead for navigating compliance issues and conduct school visits as necessary.
- Serve as the primary contact for a caseload of charter school operators regarding charter operating agreements and performance standards.
- Independently generate and propose solutions to address specific needs arising throughout the annual cycle of school oversight.
- Communicate effectively with schools, school leaders, parents, team members, and other stakeholders to oversee and monitor school quality in the NOLA-PS portfolio.
- Evaluate and manipulate a variety of school performance data, including academic, financial, and organizational metrics, pursuant to current operating agreements and CSAF requirements.
- Participate in the annual comprehensive review of OPSB’s expectations for schools under the leadership of the Chief Portfolio, Innovation, and Accountability Officer and the Executive Director of Accountability.
- Contribute to a comprehensive review of NOLA-PS policies to ensure alignment with the district’s vision, mission, national best practices, and state and federal requirements.
- Manage regular communication with departments across the organization (e.g., Legal, School Improvement and Support, Exceptional Children’s Services) to oversee compliance with federal, state, and district policies and laws.
- Serve as a resident expert in one of the following areas based on experience and skill set:

- School-Based Data and Analytics

- Financial Best Practices
- Charter Board Governance
- Charter School Authorization
- Work with key team members and school leaders to ensure compliance with performance expectations.
- Act as a liaison to address parent community concerns and student rights violations.
- Support the charter authorization and renewal process.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Public Policy, or a similar field (required).
- Master’s Degree in a related field (strongly preferred).
- Minimum of three years of professional experience (required).
- Experience working with or in charter schools (strongly preferred).
- Experience in school leadership (e.g., teacher leadership, administration, or principal) (preferred).
- Knowledge of Louisiana Charter School policy and law (strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with state and national best practices in charter school authorization (strongly preferred).

- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and courteously with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in basic office procedures and equipment, including personal computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and financial management software.

Work Environment
- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation) for part of the workday.
- Rarely required to exert physical effort in handling objects over 30 pounds.
- Rarely exposed to physical occupational risks (e.g., cuts, burns, toxic chemicals).
- Rarely exposed to physical environmental elements (e.g., dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes).
- Normal work setting is an office or school environment.
