Director of Sales
About the Role
As our Director of Sales, you’ll be the driving force behind filling the hotel, growing revenue, winning market share, and turning “maybe” into “where do I sign?” You’ll lead our sales team, build relationships that actually matter, and develop strategies that keep the business coming through the door—and preferably through our doors. You’ll work your magic across corporate, group, leisure, and special event markets, while partnering with Revenue, Marketing, and Operations to make sure we don’t just sell the hotel—we deliver an experience worth coming back for.
In short: you bring the business. We’ll make sure the hotel is ready for it.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute annual sales strategies designed to hit revenue goals, increase market share, and make our competitors wonder what we’re doing differently.
- Lead, motivate, coach, and occasionally remind the sales team that “almost hitting the goal” is not actually hitting the goal.
- Hunt for new business opportunities across corporate, group, leisure, and special event markets.
- Build and maintain relationships with key accounts, travel partners, meeting planners, and anyone else who has the ability to put heads in beds.
- Partner with Revenue Management to make sure we are selling the right business at the right price at the right time—because busy is great, but profitable is better.
- Prepare sales forecasts, performance reports, and competitive market analysis. Yes, there will be spreadsheets. They will have meaning.
- Represent the hotel at trade shows, industry events, client functions, networking events, and anywhere else where potential business might be hiding.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Operations to ensure what we sell is what we deliver—and that our clients have a fantastic experience once they arrive.
- Negotiate contracts, proposals, and agreements while protecting the hotel’s interests and keeping the fine print from becoming the main event.
- Oversee promotional materials and sales campaigns that generate buzz, business, and, ideally, bookings.
- Keep an eye on market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities so we’re not the hotel that discovers a trend six months after everyone else.
- Do whatever else it takes to help grow the business, lead the team, and keep the sales engine running.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred—but we’re more interested in what you can actually do with it.
- 5–7 years of hotel sales experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of hospitality sales, revenue management, market trends, and the fine art of getting people to say yes.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- A proven track record of achieving—and preferably exceeding—sales and revenue goals.
- Comfortable with CRM systems, hotel property management systems, Microsoft Office, and whatever dashboard currently has the numbers everyone is obsessing over.
- Ability to travel for business development, networking, trade shows, and client opportunities.
- A natural ability to walk into a room full of people you’ve never met and leave with several new contacts, a few leads, and at least one meeting on the calendar.
- The confidence to lead a team, the curiosity to keep learning, and enough resilience to survive the occasional “Thanks, but we went with another hotel.”
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, move throughout the property to meet clients and team members, and occasionally lift or move materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. You may also be required to walk meeting space, tour guest rooms, navigate event spaces, attend trade shows, and generally be where the business is happening.
Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a professional hotel office environment, but this is definitely not a “stay at your desk and wait for the phone to ring” kind of job. You’ll regularly find yourself in meeting rooms, event spaces, guest areas, client meetings, networking events, trade shows, and other places where relationships—and revenue—are built.
Why This Role?
Because you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact. You’ll lead a team, shape our sales strategy, build big relationships, chase big opportunities, and help drive the continued success of the hotel. If you’re a strategic thinker who can also pick up the phone, make the ask, close the deal, and rally the team, we’d like to meet you.
If your favorite sales strategy is “send an email and hope for the best,” this probably isn’t your dream job.
