Role DescriptionThe Director of Retention/Early Alert provides leadership for college-wide initiatives that improve student retention, persistence, and completion. The position combines strategic leadership, program administration, data-informed decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen the student experience from enrollment through completion. This position oversees the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of early alert systems, student outreach strategies, and evidence-based student success programs, including Student Learning Communities and Success Academies. Responsibilities include analyzing student success and retention data, supervising retention staff, coordinating institution-wide outreach and intervention efforts, and collaborating with academic and student services teams to connect students with timely support and resources. The Director also leads assessment and evaluation of retention initiatives, develops reports and recommendations to inform institutional decision-making, contributes to strategic planning, and works closely with faculty, advisors, and campus partners to strengthen the overall student experience and promote academic success. Qualifications:Master's degree, preferably in higher education, student affairs, counseling/coaching, academic administration, or a related field Experience:Experience in higher education with progressively responsible roles in student success, retention, advising, academic coaching, or academic support.Experience coordinating institution-wide outreach campaigns, early alert systems, or student support initiatives.Experience developing, implementing, and assessing student success and retention initiatives using data to inform continuous improvement.Prior experience teaching in secondary or post-secondary preferred, but not required. Skills:Leadership & Collaboration: Strong leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative partnerships across academic and student services to advance student success initiatives. Student Success & Retention: Knowledge of evidence-based practices in student retention, persistence, advising, early alert systems, program assessment, and academic support, with the ability to design, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve student success initiatives.Data & Technology: Proficiency with student information systems, CRM or early alert platforms, Reporting, dashboard, and data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) to evaluate outcomes and support data-informed decision-making. Communication & Organization: Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, marketing, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and work independently in a collaborative environment.
