About the role
The Director of Religious Education is a part-time position (25 hours per week) responsible for all aspects of the ministry of catechesis in the Parish, including oversight and development of policies and catechetical programs for children, youth, young adults, and adults. Duties are assigned according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee ongoing education and formation for the Parish to promote effective catechesis.
- Consult with the Pastor on reviewing materials and designing programs; provide requested resources.
- Familiarize Parish Catechetical staff with Church catechetical documents and implement principles of catechesis in parish programs.
- Develop and implement policies and Diocesan guidelines for religious education and sacramental preparation in accordance with Church documents.
- Prepare and manage the Office of Religious Education budget.
- Maintain regular communication with parish catechetical staff.
- Ensure regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Comply with federal, state, and local safety laws; maintain a neat and safe work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of BCI&I background checks and Protecting God’s Children program prior to employment.
- Active and deep Roman Catholic faith; membership in a Roman Catholic parish community.
- Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education, Catholic Theology, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of parish religious education experience or equivalent; familiarity with adult faith formation, catechist formation, young adult ministry, and total youth ministry preferred.
- Proven administrative skills including interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, management and supervision, budget preparation, and collaboration.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to read instructions, write correspondence, and compose memos.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all information.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to speak Spanish.
Pay
Base pay: $25,000 to $30,000 per year.
Schedule
Part-time, 25 hours per week; includes evenings and weekends.
