Job Summary

The Director of Purchasing & Inventory Control for the HVAC Department is responsible for overseeing all procurement and inventory management activities related to HVAC equipment, materials, and supplies. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing strategies, accurate inventory levels, optimized stocking processes, vendor management, contract negotiations, and strong internal controls to support field operations and company objectives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimize costs, quality, and supplier performance for HVAC materials and equipment.

  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management to ensure reliable and cost-effective procurement.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams to forecast purchasing needs and ensure timely delivery of materials.

  • Establish and maintain inventory control procedures to minimize waste and ensure adequate supply levels.

  • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and pricing fluctuations to inform purchasing decisions.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements related to HVAC procurement.

  • Drive process improvements and implement cost-saving initiatives within the purchasing function.

  • Analyze purchasing data and generate reports to support decision-making and strategic planning.

  • Lead and develop a team of purchasing and inventory professionals, fostering a culture of efficiency and accountability.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervising, scheduling, assigning, monitoring and evaluating work of assigned staff are responsibilities for supervisory positions. Responsible for leading and developing a team of purchasing and inventory professionals.

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement and inventory budgets, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and optimal stocking strategies.

  • Review and approve invoices, expense reports, inventory adjustments, and vendor contracts.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, reduce carrying costs, and implement strategic initiatives to optimize spending and material flow.

Key Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 7–10 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory control, or supply chain management, ideally within HVAC or construction materials environments.

  • Certifications: Relevant procurement or supply chain certifications preferred.

  • Skills: Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to secure favorable pricing and contract terms; Knowledge of HVAC systems, components, equipment, and industry suppliers; Strong understanding of inventory control principles, warehouse operations, and materials management best practices; Experience with ERP systems, procurement software, and inventory management tools; Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; Strong leadership and team management abilities; Effective communication and relationship-building skills; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities; Exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily indoors. Lighting is artificial. Equipment used includes standard office equipment i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, printer and copier.

  • Physical demands include sitting, repetitive use of hands, grasping, walking, standing, bending over, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and light lifting as required to perform job duties.

  • Hours and days are primarily Monday through Friday with some overtime and weekends required.
