Director of Public Works/Parking
About the role
The Director of Public Works/Parking oversees the operation and administration of the parking function within the Department of Public Works. This includes planning, coordinating, and overseeing all off-street parking facilities and metered street parking. The incumbent provides direction and managerial supervision of the day-to-day operations of the City's parking facilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintains records on all parking operation activities.
- Oversees contracts with entities utilizing the City's off-street parking facilities.
- Makes recommendations to improve the City's parking program for visitors and residents visiting the downtown area.
- Responds to equipment malfunctions and service-related issues.
- Works with vendors of software and hardware associated with parking.
- Reviews equipment and supply requirements and prepares justifications.
- Involved in the interviewing and staff evaluation process.
- Approves work schedules in consultation with the Director.
- Confers with other departments on matters related to the off-street parking facilities.
- Performs work as assigned by the Director as needed.
- Prepares reports as required.
Requirements
- A minimum of an Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two (2) years of supervisory or management experience in parking operations, retail business, or a service-related industry.
- Alternatively, a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience as defined in (A).
Skills
- Knowledge of management principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of electronic, computerized parking equipment and web-based parking applications.
- Good communication skills providing clear, professional communication with staff, city officials, and the community.
- Ability to utilize a personal computer and associated software programs.
- Ability to mediate disputes, maintain professionalism, and build positive work relationships.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City officers and employees, vendors, and the general public.
- Willingness to introduce new ideas, improve efficiency, and adapt to evolving city needs.
Benefits
The position offers a salary of $58,000/year and full-time regular employment with the City of Niagara Falls.

The incumbent, under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, is responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing all off-street parking facilities and metered street parking. Supervision is exercised over staff assigned to the position.
Special Requirement
Possession of a valid New York State drivers license is required at the time of appointment.
