About the role
The Director of Public Safety is responsible for leading, managing, and evaluating all Public Safety personnel, programs, and services. This includes providing effective leadership during crises, conflict, and challenges to campus safety. The role also involves serving on the Student Experience leadership team, responding to campus emergencies, and participating in student conduct investigations and hearings.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate public safety programs and services
- Manage a comprehensive campus parking program
- Implement federal and university standards and regulations for safety/security
- Develop and maintain effective relationships and coordination with law enforcement agencies
- Manage department funds and budgets
- Develop and deliver emergency protocols and plans
- Train the campus community on security and safety
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in safety and security, law enforcement, or emergency management
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership (supervisory) capacity
- Valid New York State driver’s license and a driving record aligned with the University’s motor vehicle policy
Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred
- NIMS/ICS, CPR/AED certification preferred
- Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Crime Statistics Act preferred
